About Me! Let me introduce myself.
My name is Robin Shepherdson. I grew up in the beautiful seaside town of Whitby in Yorkshire, England. I attended Bradford University where I was awarded a BSc in Electrical Engineering. Emigrated to Montreal, Canada in 1965 and became a professional engineer. I started Scale-Tron in 1971, developed a digital concrete batch controller and learned how to sell! Once the batch controller was selling, I developed one of the first microwave moisture sensors (RadarTron, now AquaSense). This was followed by a silo inventory system (SiloWeigh) and a High Pressure Washout system for concrete mixers. Along the way, the company focused on digital scales and a local company, Optimal Robotics (now Fujitsu) wanted a scale for their self-checkout system.
This introduced us to high-volume production. Since then the company has built many thousands of scales for Fujitsu, who installed them in Kroger supermarkets, Target, Canadian Tire and the Loblaws chain among many others. These designs included Carousel scales, Scale-Bar scales and Mini-Mount scales. Scale-Tron now provides Mini-Mount self-checkout scales to Pan-Oston in Kentucky.
Now retired, I spend my time consulting in load cell and sensor systems, travelling and sailing at a local yacht club. While travelling, I take photographs and make slide shows on my return. One of my other hobbies is website design, as you can see from this example. I have also completed websites for ccgweighing.com, iwsystems.ca, mmmontreal.ca, sagensound.ca and kimdoesmynails.com.
